We observed ecosystems that we planted in the classroom and kept a log of changes.
The pictures below are the plants we grew from the seeds from the Pete Dye Course. The experiment was trying to solve the question of whether or not ecosystems change. We started with soil, water, a water plant, and 4 seeds. Every day 4 additional seeds were added. Initially the water plant was healthy and no wildflower plants were visible. As the water evaporated, the water plant deteriorated and the seeds germinated. As you can see, no water plant is visible and various seeds were now growing.
One unexpected observation we made was that we found tiny snails in the bowl with the water plant. The plant was purchased from a science laboratory, so our next adventure we have planned is to contact them to find out how our snails came in our purchase and why they were not visible at first.
