We are learning that producers, consumers, and decomposers are interdependent in the ecosystem. We learned that decomposers help balance the ecosystem. One decomposer we learned about is mold, and how it grows on bread and foil. We learned that mold needs nutrients and moisture to grow. Mold is a fungus that reproduces by spores. It can grow on food, plants, and decaying matter. We put bread in a bag which was more moist and warm to see if mold would grow easier then just plain bread. We learned that mold comes in different colors which includes: black mold which has cottony soft white growth It gets it’s name from dark colored structures called fruiting bodies. Blue molds also grow on bread and green mold grow on some cheeses. We were able to see some of these kinds of molds from our experiment. We also learned that mold can transfer from one thing to another. We saw that molded blackberries transferred their mold to the bread. This experiment enabled us to see interdependence in action.~ Jackie
